Thanks for the extension! I found that, due in large part to Alyce's excellent tutorial, the shuffling, dealing and selecting of the cards was not hard to code at all. Figuring out which card the computer should select was causing me to become quite addled. The new deadline will give me more time to clear the cobwebs and sort things out.

That's good news.

I fixed my KenoCard game after the contest ended but didn't want to submit it until voting was over so to avoid any more confusion. It's still a boring game, but now, I think it's a boring game that works properly. Anyway, I'll update the contest page.

Now it's back to Go Fish!

Thanks, Alyce.

Go Fish! is coming along nicely. I'm glad you extended the deadline - I can use all that time. I think I will have a working program to submit, although it may still be buggy.

I'm hoping others have been using the time to come up with even more submissions.

I have updated my entry of GoFish! There is no artificial intelligence in this version. Player plays both hands. I hope to have some AI in a version before end of month when contest closes. See LB Programming wiki, Contests, for listing.

Card Contest - A Free Offer

I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse! (Hopefully!)

I have posted a card game, GoFish!, to the contest page of the Liberty BASIC wiki. This game is complete and fully functional as it is. But, it could use some AI so the human player does not have to play both hands. Also, it was done using gosubs and could probably be made more elegant by using called subs and functions. Additionally, the interface could use some "spiffiness". Someone with some skill at dragging and dropping could add some interest with the movement of the cards. Sounds could also be added.

I have asked Alyce for permission to offer this game as a framework - so other's could enhance it as they see fit without having to spend the time devising all the working code. The goal is to get more submissions to the contest in order to have a variety of solutions to gaming programming. Alyce has agreed and is in support of the idea. In fact, she often provides a demo program when starting a contest just for that purpose.

So, for anyone interested, copy the code from the wiki page GoFish!_jaba and give it a shot. There's still more than 3 weeks until the deadline. Why not see what you can do?

Thanks,
Jack

Re: GoFish! card game.

This is so much fun it's probably illegal in some states! I wanted to try adding some artificial intelligence to my game. It was not too difficult to make it so the computer's card selection was automatic and random. After doing that, and playing a hand to see how it worked, I discovered that it had become an *interactive* game! The human player must still double click the card to continue the computer's action. I like it!

For anyone interested, go to the wiki page and find the modifications to paste into the game code.

Next step: more automation...

Ten more days! Jaba has updated his entry. How about others? Is anybody planning to add or update a card game?

My final version of Go Fish! is now submitted. Here's a link to the zip file: gofish_min.zip.

Per the instructions on the contest page, some files are not included in the zip folder. Download those files from the links on the contest page, if you do not already have them.

Hope you enjoy the game.
