question Operation System poll
« Thread started on: Apr 28th, 2015, 08:03am »

Hey all, I'm trying to get a feel for operating system usage. If you need to use an older OS, then pick that one because it seems to only allow one selection in the poll. I wish it would permit 'check all that apply'.

You can also reply to this message with your thoughts on the matter.

Thanks a lot! smiley

I chose Linux, which is my workhorse OS- but I do use an old XP machine regularly too.

The poll really needs to ask "Which operating systems do you use Liberty BASIC with? (check all that apply). " Then followup with "Which operating system do you primarily use Liberty BASIC with?"

Seriously... My go to operating system is still XP. Although, I'm just starting to use it with Windows 7. And when a real Linux version (not through WINE) of LB shows up, I'll buy a copy.

I use it with Windows machines, but would love the ability to use it with my Mac. smiley Nudge, nudge... LOL

I chose Windows 7 for the poll since that's what I primarily use it with now, but once we migrate to Windows 8 and work that's where I'll be using it next.

I usually use LB's IDE on Windows 7 but target applications for WXP, W7, W8(.1), Wine and even W98

So far in the poll Windows XP is showing in use by about 1 in 5 people. This is pretty remarkable considering how old it is. XP was first released in 2001.

Windows XP was or felt better to use than the previous Windows 98, and Windows Vista & 7 are almost just as easy to use as XP. I would still prefer to keep on using XP but unfortunately no more support.

I use Windows 7. I decided to give Windows 8 a miss based upon what I had read of some other users experiences; I didn't want to repeat the difficulties I experienced with Vista. I'll consider using Windows 10 if it appears stable and offers enough advantages to justify upgrading from Windows 7.

I checked Win 8 but also use it on XP and Win 98, and am patiently waiting to be able to use it with UBUNTU.

Also running XP (and lb4.03) on the two desktop machines. The older laptop is Vista, but the one I use 90%+ is this WIN7 version. I feel it is time for a new computer, though, and it will likely be a WIN-8 (or whatever?).

What's interesting is that there are more people marking Wine than Windows XP. Perhaps given the kinds of people that make up our community this shouldn't be too much of a surprise. smiley

I chose windows 7 and then read the post about lowest operating system after but then vista is missing.

I think our company dropped xp support so lowest OS would be vista. I develop on windows 7 and linux. Only using wine for workshop and the help system. Nice to know some people are using wine I find it tough to use for LB programs (like trying to save preferences on exit).
