what method is used to register a software?

After one has bought it from a web site,

does the web site handle that or do i have to create a code for doing that? if so how?

Usually, if you purchase something online, the transaction is handled all by the server. If you made a program and charged for it, the server would handle purchasing and you would just have to write code in your program to check if the program has been registered or not.
