I'm pleased to announce the availability of "Beginning Programming with Liberty BASIC", a 200 page learners book. It is now available for purchase on lulu.com for $22.95 !!

Here is a direct URL:
http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/beginning-programming-with-liberty-basic/6089567

I hope that this book will also become available for purchase from other sites like Amazon in the near future.

A spiral bound version of this book will also be made available.

Hey, Thanks Carl.
I will have to get one some time after chrisms.

Any new word on lb5?? I would really like to see a compiled LB program.
I know business may not be good right now so you may want to consider on lb5 doing a buy the software and then a yearly maintenance fee for product update downloads. I would have no problem paying $150 for lb5 and 70$ a year for upgrades. If you did that and maybe included a copy of this book along with lb it would be awesome.

This is great news Carl, I'm sure the book will be popular.

I noticed that there seems to be possibly two versions of binding on LuLu. The one in your link doesn't specify which binding, when I click "also avail in paperback", it specifies perfect binding. Is one of the options spiral bound?

Carl, Could you tell us some of the contents, or like some of the Table of Contents? Briefly give some features of the book.

Firstly, this is primarily a beginners book. Probably the only thing a non beginner might not know is about the binary search material in the last chapter. I guess it makes sense to encourage those who buy the book to write reviews. Then those who are interested will be able to get a sense of the book from people who didn't write it. :)
Code:
Table of Contents

Chapter One 7
A Hairy Short History of Programming - An Urban Legend
Chapter Two 21
Juggling Information: Variables, Input, Output
Chapter Three 37

Finally I saw the little "Preview" link and then needed to click into "page 7" to see table of contents. Carl already gave the same information in two posts previous.

I got my copy. This is a GREAT book! I recommend this to anybody who wants to learn programming, but thinks it is too difficult. I also recommend it to anybody new to Liberty BASIC. I also recommend it to anybody who wants a better understanding of Liberty BASIC programming.

I often see people start with Liberty BASIC with a specific goal in mind and they move towards "just that goal" without taking the time to learn the language in toto. If you are that person, please take a week or two to work through this book, THEN start your project. It will save you a lot of time in the long run.

I also see people who are versed in another language and they try to convert programs to LB, almost line-by-line or command-by-command. I advise those folks to work through the book as well. Instead of trying to force Liberty BASIC to be some other language, find out what LB can do... and how easily it can accomplish it!

Just read the first 10 pages of the book! I'm broke, so that's all Lulu let me see. It looks great! One thing you might consider trying to do is get in on the e-book bandwagon and selling it through Amazon's Kindle or, better yet, Barne's & Noble's Nook! Generally, books go for less on them and they should. I more than most on this forum know the cost of printing books (that's what I do for a living) and a lot of the cost of the books are eaten up in printing. Additionally, the publisher's have to send PDF files to the printers to have the books printed in the first place (which is essentially an e-book, anyway). So you may see about getting it released that way. I love Liberty BASIC (although I'm starting to use Linux now so I'm very much anticipating LB5) and any chance to learn more is always welcome! I feel that you can never know too much. After all, the more I learn, the less I know!! Seriously, I used to know everything!! Great job on the book Carl, it's on my wishlist of books to get in the near future.

I like it.

I gave some demostrations with LB lately.
Here is some feedback.
Most of the audience (60 people in total) came
from the QB era (50%) and wanted to refresh
their BASIC.
The rest wanted to see me showing the working
of LB.

Will Lulu make the book in a spiral bound format, even for add'l cost?
The 'lay flat' capability would be a great advantage.
Thank you.
[PS. couldn't perform my job without LB! - writing simple, little, custom file-in file-out programs almost weekly to fix, enhance, and otherwise prepare unique customer data for processing (Direct Mail); LB offers everything I need from the simple to more complex than I can deal with. just great]
