xx Liberty BASIC v4.5.1 beta 1
« Thread started on: Apr 21st, 2017, 07:40am »

Hey all,

Sorry it's been a while.

Here is a beta of LB v4.5.1 for your perusal.

http://libertybasic.com/lb451setup.exe

Liberty BASIC v4.5.1 beta 1 release notes
----------------------------------------------------------------------

-Added a Smaller font and Larger font button to the Liberty BASIC
editor toolbar so that you can change the font size quickly.

-Fixed the bug where the Liberty BASIC editor would open off-screen
when Liberty BASIC is started. This would give the appearance that
Liberty BASIC was not loading.

-Fixed the double-click behavior in the Liberty BASIC editor so that
variable names that have periods in them will be properly selected.
This improves the way that the new variable highlight works.

-Changed memory limit to 768MB because Windows sometimes choked on a
1GB allocation, and this sometimes prevents Liberty BASIC from
starting up.

-Updated runtime engine name to run451.exe

Thanks for your patience.

I get two single pixel dots where the font change icons should be. Also the runtime is named 450 not 451

I also got the usual Windows nanny nagging about this file may harm your PC. Been discussed before.

If I close whilst minimized it now restarts with the window in view, hurrah! However I think it is taking the usual small default values for a window. Perhaps 800x600 would be less of a surprise to folks.

Just a quick note. I'm not going to be able to be as conservative about releases as I once was. What I mean by this is that I will release test versions without heavy testing on my end, because this kind of thing slows me down.

Small changes. Frequent releases.

I will rely on community help with weeding out bugs more than I used to.

Thanks,

Ditto about having no font size icons on toolbar.
Also, I 've got two entries in Start menu

Liberty BASIC v4.5.1
- seemingly pointing to same

Did it also install an icon on your desktop?

I am on Win 10, it did set up an icon on my desktop. I also have it listed twice under the start menu but it is listed under recently added and correctly, in alpha order, below Liberty 4.5.0 So that's a Windows thing.

All icons work and start Liberty 4.5.1 with the tutorial in view which runs.

Since the closing of the window is triggering the settings update how about using the following procedure:
  1. If the window is minimized when closed, hide it
  2. restore the window
  3. get the correct size and position from it

Users don't expect their settings to be changed if they are set to be remembered.

I'm not sure I like this new plan. It's too much like what some software companies have always done.

I think I would rather Carl spend more time debugging the software and charge more for it.

I need to do it differently. I have not been successful doing the same old way.
