xx Cannot access parallel port with INP and OUT
« Thread started on: Feb 1st, 2017, 03:41am »

Hi I have LB v4.5 on windows 8.1 and I did as mentioned in readme.txt. I

copied ntport.dll to C:\Windows\System32
copied zntport.sys to C:\Windows\System32\drivers
copied ntport2.reg contents to registry

then restarted.

But inp(port) yielded zero and out(port, byte) did not toggle port pins.

What else did I miss? Or LB cannot access parallel port pin anymore?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for previous wrong info, I might be too confused, my shame.

Ok, finally I can toggle parallel port pins with LB thru inpout32.dll.
For info, my setup is LB v4.5 on Windows 8.1 64-bit. First go to this website

http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/inpout32/default.htm

and download binaries only plus any extras (source and sample) if require, then

1. Unzip InpOutBinaries_1501.zip
2. Place InpOut32.dll in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. This is for 32-bit applications.
3. Run InstallDriver.exe in Win32 folder to elevate InpOut32.dll to be able to run with 64-bit applications that run as 32-bit in SysWOW64.
4. Place InpOutx64.dll in C:\Windows\System32 for pure 64-bit applications.
5. Done.

Even on 64-bit windows, if the application is 32-bit (like LB), call InpOut32.dll not InpOutx64.dll.

Hope this is useful for tinkerers.

Happy memories of bit-banging the parallel port that used to be standard! Thanks for sharing what worked for you.

Nowadays most of us who are interested in interfacing use a USB-connected device. Parallel ports are not common now.

Let us know what you are interfacing with- it's good to hear of other people's ideas.
