xx Is LB Help tutorial working on LB Pro 4?
« Thread started on: Feb 4th, 2015, 10:47pm »

Hello, Folks!:

Am trying to find out how my tutorial page fails to work under LB Pro v4.04. Equally shocking is to find that the only bmp file is listed under C:/Users/<computer name>/AppData/Roaming/Liberty Basic Pro v4.04/bmp! Was unaware of the changes till now. Very confusing to me....

Any help appreciated,
Yshua huh

Dear Rod:

The tutorial now works! Wonderful!!

But seems the help file is still missing.... Do you have the solution for that as well?

Thanks loads,

The help file is not missing.

What Windows version have you been using before and which are you using now?

.HLP files are no longer supported by default by Windows since Windows Vista, make sure to follow the advice at http://basic.wikispaces.com/Installing_on_Vista

Dear Stefan:

Chaos where am living after eviction and PC's were stolen!!! OK, am now using Windows 8.1 64 bit, but am on Program Files (x86) with Liberty Basic Pro v4.04. For some reason the windows hlp download 32bit version fails unless on 64bit download. Then that is without effect.

Used to do all my programming on a Windows XP, off the internet, but now stolen. Only now discover that the help directory failed on my Windows 8.1....

Just absolutely LOVE the handy help directory.

Any help would be appreciated,

LB 4.04 doesn't use the HLP files, but simple HTML files instead.

If your default browser is not IE, but Firefox or similar, you must open your browser before you hit the help button.
This seems to be a problem with the way LB launches the help HTML pages.

A long time ago was available the helpfile in CHM format which we were able to download from one of the Liberty BASIC wiki's. It was not intended specifically for the Pro edition though.

Dear Stefan and tooanalytical:

Perhaps I can just load the html files into a file to read whenever needed?

Is that OK? And if so, how could they be loaded?

You could put a bookmark in your browser:
file:///C:/Program%20Files%20%28x86%29/Liberty%20BASIC%20Pro%20v4.04/lb4help/LibertyBASIC_4.html

If you wanted to, you could copy the lb4help folder onto a memory stick and have it available where ever you go.

Dear Jim Hiley,

That worked great to get the help file! Thanks loads.

Now, Rod, when clicking on the help icon, it shows the options for "Liberty Basic Help," which yields zilch when selected, "Pro Tools Help," and zilch thereafter, and then, Liberty Basic Tutorial, which works!

Either the Liberty Basic Help, or the Pro Tools Help would be great to be back running again!

Thanks,

I still don't know what browser you use, what browser starts when you click on help. Also navigate to the help file .html file, right click on it, does it say it is blocked in the general pane? if so click on unblock and try again.

Otherwise it is the known bug using a browser other than IE, Jim has shown you a solution for that. You might also drag a shortcut of the file to your desktop.

Dear Rod:

Am using Internet Explorer.

Would like to know where the .html file resides. Was unable to find it in Program Files (x86) or under "All Files" within LB Pro.

Appreciate your help,

This is where it is on my PC. So you are looking for a folder called lb4help, inside that you will find libertyBASIC_4.html. Pro might have slightly different names.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Liberty BASIC v4.04\lb4help\LibertyBASIC_4.html"

If you are using IE then I suspect that when you downloaded the software IE protected your PC and locked all of the files. IE will not open locked files.

If unblocking the file (as I described earlier) fixes the problem what you are best doing is download the install file again, before you run it right click on it and unblock it. Now all of the files it creates will not inherit the block and you should see the help data.

Dear Rod:

Found the .html file just where you said it would be. But found zero indication of it being "blocked" after right clicking on it. What should be looked for? It had unchecked boxes on read only and write only....

Am so grateful for your help!
